Larry LeeLarry Lee Britton volunteered to be the North Platte City Council’s representative splasher in the 2007 Hoggy Doggy Shadow Splash. Larry Lee said he was willing to participate in the Hoggy Doggy Splash even thought forecasts called for temperatures in the mid teens. Other council members offered to raise money or contribute to the cause in support of Larry’s commitment to jump into the river. Larry true to his word came in costume to splash in the river.

The Hoggy Doggy Shadow Splash is a fund raiser for the homeless shelter in North Platte. Prior to making the pilgrimage to the river Jim Paloucek, one of the event organizers, said they had raised $29,000 for the shelter. Read more about the Splash here.

I confess, I wasn’t one of the people prepared to jump in the river. Because of the extreme and dangerous conditions most, but not all of the jumpers jumped in a horse tank set up closer to the shelter and warmth of a North Platte law office. But some of the hard core including event organizers and shelter director Ron Snell made their way to the ice covered river to make the plunge.

[Update] Stories from the Bulletin on the Splash are here. And at the NP Telegraph here. According to reports the Splash raised $30,000 for the Shelter.
