Lenten eMeditation – March 16, 2005 #36

I regularly visit a web site called Whiskey River for inspiration. Today the site contained the following quote from Alan Fletcher in which he contrasts “rock logic” with “water logic.” He says of rock logic;

“Rocks being solid, hard, permanent, inert and unchanging. Like bricks, rocks can be added on top of one another to build structures. However there is also ‘water logic’. This is fluid and flows according to gradient (context), and assumes form according to space (circumstance). If you add one rock to another you get two; if you add water to water, it changes shape.”

Reflecting on this passage I knew I would add a form of logic. I would add grace logic. Like water logic, grace logic flows but as the form of God’s love and vision it invites us to assume its shape.

Too often I live according to rock logic with unchanging opinions and inert attitudes. According to rock logic I’m living with a hardened heart. The Lenten journey prepares me to accept the water logic of Baptism flowing into the form of the Body of Christ. Guided by grace logic I’m invited to a life of generous service, love and the new life of Easter.

Today I pray for the gift of grace logic.

”Glory and praise for ever!” (Dan 3:52b)
