Lenten eMeditation – March 21, 2005 #41
In response to a question asked during a Bananas adult workshop, Bishop Dendinger reminded us that Catholics renew their Baptismal Promises every year during the Easter Liturgy. At the beginning of Holy Week I thought it would be fitting to prepare for my celebration of Easter by reviewing the promises I will renew at the Easter Vigil.
I will renew my Baptismal Promises by responding to the following questions.
”Do you reject sin so as to live in the freedom of God’s children?"
”Do you reject the glamour of evil, and refuse to be mastered by sin?
”Do you reject Satan, father of sin and prince of darkness?”
”Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?”
”Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died and was buried, rose from the dead, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?”
"Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting?”*
I haven’t always taken the time to prepare for renewing my Baptismal promises. Reviewing the promises now may help me realize that I am born into the new life we celebrate at Easter and allow it to renew my life fully.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation.” (Ps 27:1a)
