Lenten eMeditation – March 9, 2005 #29

It is a beautiful day outside my window. The sky is that deep Nebraska blue highlighted with a few transparent clouds gently moving across the horizon. The people who predict the weather tell us the early crisp temperatures will give way to the mid-fifties by the afternoon.

One thing I like about living in Nebraska is the “outdoors.” And even though we desperately need some rain, snow anything in the way of moisture nature blesses us abundantly. I’m moved to wonder what gift there is for us even in this drought, a tough question for those who rely on moisture for their living.

I racked my brain to develop some deep theological reflection for today. I deleted word after word and line after line in search of just the right theme. As I often do, I got up to walk around to see what I might stumble on to give this work some direction. Returning to my desk, I stopped at the window and just stood there gazing off into the distance. Letting go of my demand for a theme, story or idea I felt a sense of gratitude fill my heart.

There is something about a blue Nebraska sky that refreshes the soul and I am grateful.

“The Lord is gracious and merciful.” (Ps 145:8a)
