Lenten eMeditation - March 10, 2006 #10
A strange thing happened because of yesterday's mediation. I planned to set a link to Wayne Works referred to in the meditation. So, to Google I went and entered, "Wayne Works." Google found roughly 10,900 references to Wayne Works on the web. I had expected to find some references to Wayne Works but over 10,000.
Being an internet fanatic I started following the links. There in the Wikipedia under "Wayne Corporation" was this picture from 1973. I looked at the picture once and then again. It was true, there standing next to the bus one of the three representatives from the Wayne Corporation was my Dad. (Here is a link to the picture http://tinyurl.com/j86rc)
I called him and said, "Guess what I found?" I described the picture to him and he quickly told the story Wayne used the picture to illustrate.
I like hearing the stories of my family's life. I treasure the opportunity to hear Dad tell one more story about school buses and his work. As an engineer Dad took his work with school buses seriously. After all these buses carried children and it was his mission to do all that he could to see that for the time those children were on the bus they were as safe as they could be.
I learned about the connection between faith and life in part from my Dad. Lent provides a systematic time to review the ways my faith guides my life. It is easy to go to Mass but loving my neighbor I find to be difficult. My Lenten practice of fasting, almsgiving and prayer help me reconnect my religious practice with my practice of living.
Thanks Dad.
