Just that fragile A rather violent thunderstorm Sunday night knocked out a tower used by a provider of cell phone service in North Platte. As a result, cell phone users all over the area were having trouble. Calls were being dropped. Other users could not make or receive calls. It was reported that one man's phone was sending text messages to itself....go figure. Cell phones are a wonderful tool of modern life and yet the system is so fragile. So many of our modern conveniences are like that, fragile. A strong thunderstorm in Denver delays flights on both coasts. A phone trunk cable cut and communications to a whole region stops--store close, self-service gas pumps no longer pump. And so it goes.
