Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend

I know what Memorial Day weekend is about but, I have to comment on the "Indy 500" and Husker Baseball. What a day!

There is enough Hoosier in me yet to enjoy watching the Indianapolis 500. Today's race was especially exciting. Danica Patrick made history as the first woman ever to lead the Indianapolis 500. Danica PatrickShe finished fourth. (Story and pictures on MSN click here.)I remember, as a mere youth we'd pack up the car and driving from Richmond, Indiana to Indianapolis for the first day of Time Trials. We'd set up camp on the infield at the first turn and spend the day tracking the time trials, visiting the pits and roaming the grounds of the Speedway. We were eager to catch just a glimpse of the drivers and to see A.J. Foyt walking down pit row was a real treat. I am older now but I still get goose bumps when I hear the call, "Drivers, start your engines." Today's race was an exciting race filled with competition and strategy from the beginning to the end. If only that caution light had not come on with one lap to go.

Husker BaseballThis was also a great day for Cornhuskers! The Nebraska baseball team took the Big 12 championship with a win over Baylor, 1 to 0. Read the story here or here. Nebraska had to do it the hard way, coming back from the losers bracket to win the championship. The Nebraska baseball team will not receive as much attention for their accomplishment as the football team would have but they are the Big 12 Champions. Nebraska is becoming a baseball power house. I hope we give them the accolades they deserve. Well done team and good luck in the NCAA Baseball Championship---Go Huskers.
