We've received over 2.5 inches of rain in June and it is only June 3rd. As I write this June 3, 2005, 7:54 p.m. it is raining again. <img src="/images/weather.jpg" width="180" height="167" border="0" align="right" hspace="1" vspace="1" alt="Radar"> I find it difficult to complain because we are still in desperate need of moisture. So as it rains I will be thankful. The rain tonight is gentle and if the ground were as thirsty as it has been I'm sure it would drink it up like a person overcome with greed. But the ground is saturated and so along with the rain we have flash flood warnings. North Platte is trying to take the city out of the 100 year flood plane so we don't have to pay flood insurance. The property owners of North Platte have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars into the federal flood insurance program and have only received $27,000 in insurance payments. So required flood insurance in NP is not a good investment. I'm told that's how insurance works.
