Union Pacific is holding a web-based contest for communities to vote to bring a Union Pacific steam locomotive excursion trip to their town! What a great opportunity for North Platte!

Here are the details:

For the first time ever, Union Pacific wants you to route its steam locomotives for a special excursion. This is your chance to help the UP Steam Team decide where these steam giants will travel.

Here’s how it works:

Round one: Town voting — Go to upexcursion.com, watch the short movie, and nominate your hometown. Round one currently is under way, and continues through Dec. 7, 2010.

Round two: Routing — The UP Steam Team will tally the votes and chart potential excursions.

Round three: Route voting — The potential excursion routes will be posted on upexcursion.com. Vote for your favorite route. One of our steam locomotives will travel the route with the most votes. Round three begins Jan. 4, 2011.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the North Platte area.
