Morally Inappropriate?

“Shell says biofuels from food crops ‘morally inappropriate’” this headline caught my eye yesterday. It seems an executive from the “worlds top marketer of biofuels, considers using food crops to make biofuels ‘morally inappropriate’ as long as there are people in the world who are starving.” Read the story here.

That people in this world are starving is a moral travesty. However our inability to effectively distribute food around the world is not caused by using corn to make biofuels. Might be worth reflecting on the morality of obscene oil company profits. We might even discuss the morality of the outrageously low price of corn.
