A short City Council meeting tonight, only five items on the Regular agenda. We approved a conditional use permit to allow a salvage yard in an I-2 Heavy Industrial District @ 1912 Newberry Access. Will be an appropriate use of that property.

We passed on second reading an ordinance related to animal control. These steps should help the city control strays and animals in danger of being abandoned.

We also passed an ordinance vacating Prospect Enterprises Second Subdivision. This action changes the subdivision into three large lots enabling future development.

We authorized acceptance of a Nebraska Highway Safety Grant  “You Drink & Drive. You Loose” This grant will provide additional enforcement in the emphasis of alcohol for August 21 through September 7, 2009.

And finally we authorized the Mayor to enter into an agreement to update job specifications and conduct a wage study. The study should help the City more efficiently provide services.

We will have budget meeting starting next week, July 28, 29, and 30. These meetings will begin at 4:00 pm and will be held in Council Chambers in City Hall. If you’re interested in learning about the City’s budget you will find these meeting interesting.
