Mobile Technology for the Catechetical Leader

The Context - Goal

After agreeing to do this Learning Session I wrote the following description.
“In the Gospels, we find Jesus on the beach out and about with people. The modern catechetical leader cannot be tied to his or her desk and the desktop computer. This learning session explores the use of mobile technology including PDAs, pocket PCs, Ipods, and cell phones to support the catechetical leader on the move.”

Reflection from Dave Winer

“The problem with most conferences is that the intelligence is sitting in the dark with its hands folded, falling asleep while a bunch of idiots on stage with PowerPoints talking nonsense because they are so scared they need crutches to keep from having a nervous breakdown.” Dave Winer

Open Source Model

Open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's sources. Some consider it as a philosophy, and others consider it as a pragmatic methodology. Read more on Wikipedia here. I hope this session is more a dialogue between ussers of mobile technology.

What Would Disney Do?

  • The question, What would Disney Do? asked on John Sviokla's blog calls us to think in new ways about our ministry.

Screencasts

A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, often containing audio narration. More on screencasting in Wikipedia here.

  • http://stage.cecnsw.catholic.edu.au/reled/reled3.asp - This is the link I mentioned to you during Don's workshop. This is being developed in Australia by Catholic Educators. Still early in its development, you see that it aims to provide suggested websites, Learning Objects, and Faith Quests (a concept that I've shared with Adrian Brown who in turn is involving religious educators to develop these type of online activities.)
